Play It Again! Drawing gives players a second chance to win

NASHVILLE – The second time’s the charm for 18 lucky players who entered non-winning instant tickets into the Tennessee Lottery’s Play It Again! program and won a total of more than $930,000 in this month’s drawing.

Laughter, tears and excitement followed the notification process, in which President and CEO Rebecca Hargrove calls many of the winners. “This is a joke, right?” said Memphis resident Kelly Tunstall after receiving the news that she won $150,000. “This is just unbelievable!”

Wiley Holloway, 65, was surprisingly calm—but pleased—when he arrived today at the Lottery’s Nashville headquarters to claim his prize of $250,000. “You are the calmest person I’ve ever met who won a quarter of a million dollars!” said Ms. Hargrove after meeting Mr. Holloway, a retired insurance businessman from Murfreesboro.

Not so for Lawrenceburg’s Vickie Mashburn, who was thrilled to learn she won $30,000 by entering a non-winning “Holiday Tripler” instant ticket. “Nothing like this has ever happened to me!” she told Ms. Hargrove. “My husband makes fun of me all the time for entering these tickets, but I think that will change now.”

Fifteen other players won prizes ranging from $200 to $250,000 in this week’s drawing, which brings the total awarded through Play it Again! to over $5 million. The program is designed to give a second chance to play and win while helping the environment. To “Play it Again,” simply click on the Play it Again! icon and follow the directions … and that’s all there is to it—no need for postage, envelopes, or even to keep the ticket. Once the ticket is registered, the Lottery asks players to dispose of tickets properly. For added convenience, players may register at one of the Lottery’s district offices in Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville.
