$2 Million Powerball Winner in Knoxville, Jackpots Continue to Soar

NASHVILLE— As the jackpots for Mega Millions and Powerball reach astronomical levels, thousands of players win prizes at eight other prize levels along the way. Last night, a lucky Powerball player in Knoxville won $2 million by matching all five white numbers drawn—just one number shy of the jackpot.

The base prize for matching the five white numbers drawn is $1 million. But because the player added the Power Play for an extra $1, the prize is $2 million.

And the weekend brought even higher jackpots for both games:  Mega Millions has shattered all lottery records, now standing at $1.6 billion, while Powerball has grown to $620 million—making for quite a week to come.

No information about the Knoxville winner is available until the prize is claimed.
