POWERBALL JACKPOT RECORD OF $340 MILLION MEANS CHANCE FOR MORE TO SHARE WINNINGS;“Share the Winnings” Feature Kicks in for First Time, Offering 2nd Tier Prize Winners Larger Prizes

NASHVILLE — With a record-breaking Powerball jackpot of more than one-third of a billion dollars, a feature added to Powerball in 2002 kicks in for the first time.

Since there was no grand prize winner in Saturday night’s drawing, a new jackpot of a staggering $340 million has been set for Wednesday’s drawing. Since the previous record of $314.9 million has been broken, the “Share the Winnings” feature is now in place. The addition is designed to increase the prizes for players who match 5 white numbers correctly by using a Bonus Prize Pool.

“This Bonus feature is just one of the many ways we keep Powerball exciting for players, who continue to show their enthusiasm for the games and support the education programs we fund,” said Rebecca Paul, CEO and President of the Tennessee Lottery. “It’s wonderful that Tennessee can join in the nationwide excitement surrounding a jackpot of this size.”

Here’s how it works:

*Now that the previous record Powerball jackpot has been surpassed, the “Share the Winnings” feature sets jackpot growth to no more than $25 million per draw. Any additional funds that would go into the grand prize pool above the $25 million will be placed into a BONUS Prize Pool that will be divided equally among any 5 of 5 prize winners of the drawing in which the jackpot is hit.
*Check www.powerball.com for the latest information on the size of the growing BONUS Prize Pool.
*Winning Match 5 players who played Power Play will win $200,000 multiplied by the selected multiplier. The BONUS prize will then be added to this total. The BONUS prize is not multiplied by the Power Play option.
*The BONUS Prize Pool grows until the jackpot is won. The BONUS Prize Pool grows just as the primary jackpot pool rolls and is paid out only when there is a jackpot winner.
*Players who match 5 white ball numbers for that drawing still win $200,000 or $200,000 times the Power Play number if the player purchased that option.

The Tennessee Lottery began selling its first tickets on January 20, 2004. As of Sept. 30, 2005, the Lottery had raised more than $415 million to fund specific education programs, including college scholarships, pre-kindergarten and after-school programs.
