TENNESSEE RANKS 2ND IN NUMBER OF POWERBALL WINNERS 51,780 Winners in State’s First Drawing; Jackpot Grows to $103 Million

NASHVILLE — Lottery players who purchased Powerball tickets from Tennessee retailers have won an estimated $452,058, including one $100,000 ticket that was purchased in Bean Station. By selecting the Power Play option, 7,867 players multiplied their winnings by four. The state ranked second for total winners among the other 26 lotteries who participate in the multi-state Powerball game.

“This first historical drawing just proves the excitement Powerball can create,” said Rebecca Paul, CEO and president of the Tennessee Lottery. “In just three days, Powerball sales have translated into nearly $1 million for education programs in Tennessee.”

The Powerball jackpot for the next drawing on April 24 is estimated at $103 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. CST (10:59 p.m. EST). Watch for drawings at 10 p.m. CST (11 p.m. EST) on official Tennessee Lottery television stations throughout Tennessee.

As with all Tennessee Lottery games, profits from Powerball tickets sold in Tennessee remain in the state and go to fund education programs. Most immediately, the Lottery is charged with raising at least $88 million by July 1 in order to fund scholarships for an estimated 65,000 students expected to attend Tennessee colleges and universities in the fall.
